Dear
Friends of
Feed the Hungry San Miguel,
As I reflect on the first half of 2026, I remember the challenges we faced early on as an organization. There were many. I am so proud that our Boards and our Executive Director and her entire dedicated staff rose up to every challenge! In many ways our Murals of Dreams Gala was a celebration of our successful execution of our mission to feed children in need as well as the sharing of fellowship with our faithful and generous donor community. Many of you may remember the moving video, "Calling All the Angels," that was featured during the gala. To relive that special moment, click here. More than a reflection on a memorable evening, it is a powerful reminder of the children we serve and the mission that inspires everything we do.
In this newsletter, you will read about the integration of several pilot initiatives into our School Meals Program. These changes are the result of years of observation, evaluation, and collaboration. They reflect our commitment to using what we have learned to strengthen the support we provide to children and families. By bringing successful elements of these programs into our core work, we can focus our resources where they will have the greatest impact. You will also learn about our annual health assessments, a remarkable undertaking made possible by our dedicated Nutrition Team. Their work helps us monitor the well-being of thousands of children and gives us valuable information that guides our efforts throughout the year.
I am especially grateful to our many volunteers. They wear so many disparate hats within the vibrant tapestry that is our collective family of volunteers, employees, and our generous donor community. Volunteers pack the food we provide, transport that food to our many far-flung communities, design and build our new kitchens, and support our many successful events such as the Murals of Dreams Gala and the delightful new Fashion Feeds event. They are not visible on our organizational chart, but Feed the Hungry San Miguel would simply not exist without them!
As this current school year comes to an end, we are already preparing for the next school year in September. Through our Back-to-School Campaign, we hope to ensure that thousands of kids begin the year with the help they need to succeed. Your participation goes a long way to ensure the success of this important campaign.
We truly are family. Your presence and support are felt everywhere and in everything we do to fulfill our critical mission. Your continued trust, encouragement, and generosity allow us to serve nearly 5,000 children a hot, nutritious meal every school day. We do not take that responsibility lightly. We want to do more!
Together, we continue building a stronger future, one child, one meal, and one community at a time.
With gratitude,
Darryl "Blue" Blueitt
President, Feed the Hungry San Miguel, Inc.
